There was a time in my life when I was very anxious about my carrier, life, and job and I thought too much about it. We all know what overthinking is. The same thought keeps popping up in your mind regularly, and you can’t do anything about it. Due to this, the person starts isolating himself from his social life and this leads to depression. This is how it was when I was overthinking. I started isolating myself from my friend circle because the thoughts that keep popping up in my mind always keep me down and anxious. And due to this, I was unable to socialize with my friends, have difficulty concentrating on my work, and enjoy the moment. And this leads me to get depressed.

Being depressed and overthinking is a deadly combination. I want to get out of it but don’t know-how. I started searching on the internet for possible solutions, but nothing helped me come up with them. So I started focusing on myself and started investigating my life. I started asking why this happened to me. Where will this problem lead me in the future? What will happen if I don’t come out of it? Likewise, I started examining myself and searching for solutions on my own level of understanding and with the help of the internet. After searching for a solution for so many days, I came up with a solution that actually worked for me, and now I am coming out of it slowly.

So what was my method to stop overthinking? Are you curious? Okay, I will share it with you. I hope it will also work for you. :)

Whenever any thought that popped up in my mind started hurting me mentally and started sucking my mental energy. I examine it and categorize it into 3 parts.

  1. Is this thought related to my past life like any bad decision I have taken or anything I have done wrong? If yes, then I note down what should I learn from this mistake and quickly forget it. Yes, you have to give order to your mind to forget it because the past can’t be changed.
  2. Is this thought related to my future time? If yes, then I am imagining too much because that has not happened yet and I am worrying too much. So you have to say to your mind that you are just imagining nothing that happened yet. You should plan what are the steps you need to take to make it fruitful for you.
  3. Is this thought related to my present time for example you have assigned any work and you are worrying that you cannot do this work properly? If yes then divide it into two-part

a) First are you worrying about the things you can’t control like weather, Bus time, etc? Then stop it because we know we can’t do anything about it. We can just hope for the best of our situation.

b) Second are you worrying about the things you can control like your exam, job interview, etc? Then you are underconfident. You just have to believe in yourself and have some self-confidence. The situation is in your hand. If you keep calm and start breathing deeply it will relax your brain. Just hope for the best and proceed.

That’s all that worked for me, hoping it will also work for you :)
